Licenses
Two licenses, one rule of thumb: if it makes money or promotes a business, it's commercial. Everything else is personal.
Personal
The listed price
- Every BBS and personal server you run yourself, as many as you like
- SSH banners,
/etc/motdand terminal art on your own machines - Edit it, recolor it, put your board's name on it
- Credit is appreciated, never required
Commercial
3× the personal price
- Games and apps, free or paid
- Monetized streams and videos
- Company servers, websites and ads
- Credit required where it's practical: “Art by ANSIGARDEN”
Which do I need?
Both licenses
- Don't share or resell the files themselves. Showing the art on your board, server, game or stream is what the license is for; handing out the files is not.
- Every format is included. The classic
.ansfor your board, UTF-8 for modern terminals and PNG images all come with every purchase. - Upgrade any time. Bought personal and now it's commercial? Pay only the difference, from your library.
- Your name is on it. The
LICENSE.txtin every download carries your name and license.
Common cases
- My BBS has a donate button that covers the phone line
- Personal. Covering costs isn't making money.
- A Twitch stream with subscriptions
- Commercial.
- The login banner on my company's servers
- Commercial: it's for a business.
- A free, open-source door game
- Personal, if nobody earns from it. Commercial once it's sold or shows ads.
- Printing it on shirts to sell
- Not covered by either: ask us and we'll sort it out.
